Using the editor without an account

The route editor works fully without signing in. The route you're drawing, imported tracks, waypoints, and preferences (units, language) are kept only in your browser's local storage — never sent anywhere, and gone if you clear your browser data. There is no server-side draft, no session, nothing to delete on our end because nothing was collected.

If you sign in (cloud save)

Signing in is optional and only needed to save routes to your account and see them on other devices. It uses a passwordless one-time email code — we never see or store a password. Signing in stores your email address and whatever routes you explicitly save (title, the points and path, distance/elevation) in a database, access-controlled so only your signed-in account can read or write your own routes. Deleting a saved route or your account removes that data.

Third-party services

Several features work by your browser talking directly to free public map/data services — not through us, and not tied to any Hikit account:

• Map tiles and trail data — OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap contributors
• Real trail paths, hiking points of interest, and route search — the Overpass API (OpenStreetMap query service)
• Place-name search — Photon (Komoot)
• Snap-to-trail routing — BRouter
• Elevation profiles — Open-Meteo
• Trail descriptions/photos in Discover — Wikipedia

These requests carry whatever's needed to answer them (e.g. a place name you searched, or coordinates of points you placed) — the same as visiting any map website. Each service has its own privacy practices, outside our control.

No tracking

Hikit runs no analytics, ad trackers, or tracking cookies. The only things stored locally are your own draft route and preferences, described above.
