What every tool in the editor does, and where to find it.
The icons below match exactly what you'll see in the editor's toolbar — hover any button there for a reminder too.
Drawing a route
Add point
Click the map to add a point to the end of the route. Click directly on the route line instead to insert a new point wherever it's needed, or click an existing point to close a loop back to it. Drag any point to reshape the route. Choose Free-hand or Stick to trails from the same panel to control how points snap together.
Undo / redo
Every point add, drag, or delete can be undone — the usual ⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z shortcuts work (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y on Windows and Linux).
Search
Search a place or trail name to jump the map straight there before you start drawing.
Markers
Add marker
Click near the route to drop a marker snapped exactly onto it — its editor opens right away. Name it, pick a category — camping, drinking water, shelter, mountain shelter, viewpoint, or caution — add notes or a phone number, or delete it, all from that same popup. Click any existing marker's pin to reopen it.
Edit route panel
Drag the amber handles to trim the route's start or end. Markers already placed show as an overview here too — tap one to jump the map to it and open its editor.
Understanding the terrain
Elevation profile
Shows the climb along the whole route, total gain/loss, an estimated hiking time, and a plain-English summary of what to expect.
Style
Cycle the route line between a plain color, colored by steepness, or colored by surface type.
Map layers
Switch the basemap between Standard map, Topographic, or Satellite, and toggle the waymarked-trails overlay on top of any of them. Set your preferred default basemap in Settings.
Combining and managing routes
Import GPX
Bring in an existing GPX file from the import/export icon in the top-left corner. If you already have a route open, the import shows up as a dashed line you can open or combine instead of replacing your current work.
Combine trails
Appears once you have an active route and at least one imported one. Turn it on, then click a dashed imported route to stitch it onto the end of your active route as one longer trail.
Saving and exporting
Export
Download the route as a GPX file for your GPS device or another app, or generate a printable A3 topographic map — landscape, with a scale bar, north arrow, and legend — of the current view, with or without a route.

Signed in? Save the route to your account and find it again later from Routes in this sidebar.
Your route library
Import
From Routes in the sidebar, import a GPX file straight into your library — it opens in the editor, ready to review and save.
Export
Download any saved route as a GPX file from its card in Routes, without having to open it first.
Map Builder
Start a poster
Start from a saved route or a blank area you search for, then pick a layout — topo map, info sheet, poster, or blank — as your starting point.
Drag, resize, and toggle elements
Drag any element to move it, drag a corner to resize it, and use the chips in the toolbar to add or remove the title, map, stats, scale bar, north arrow, and legend. "+ Text" adds free-standing text boxes.
Fonts and colors
Pick from a curated set of open-license fonts (or upload your own) and any color, per element, from the inspector panel on the right.
Undo / redo
The same ⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y) shortcuts as the route editor work here too.
Export SVG or PDF
Export the finished poster as a self-contained SVG for further editing, or a print-ready PDF.
